I’ve Never Seen Ketones Like This! How One Woman Broke Through a Year-Long Stall

Your questions pour in from all platforms, but I answer them best in our 21-Day Metabolic Kick (21DMK) class—held twice a year. The February class was our best yet, with students transforming their metabolisms in just three weeks.

This Week’s Question: Why Am I Finally Losing Weight?

A 59-year-old woman had been “keto-ing” for three years. She needed to lose 100 pounds, and the first 65 melted off. But then she stalled, gained 10 pounds back, and got stuck.
At the end of Week 2 inside our 21-Day Metabolic Kick class, she asked, “Why am I finally losing weight?”

Short Answer: Hormones.

Long Answer:

Years of high insulin from a high-carb diet created resistance, making weight loss nearly impossible.

When she entered ketosis, her chemistry shifted, mobilizing stored fat because insulin dropped.

Decades of elevated insulin had built up a tolerance—her body needed more and more insulin to regulate blood sugar. That’s insulin resistance. It’s what’s behind her belly fat, slow metabolism, and brain fog.

Insulin controls fat storage—too little and you waste away (type 1 diabetes), too much and weight gain is effortless.
She lost the first 65 pounds because she lowered insulin, but did not correct her insulin resistance. Within several weeks of her newly lowered insulin, her body adapted to this new normal. That’s where she stalled. She had no idea why the fat-loss stopped. In order for her to shed more weight, she needed to lower that insulin again.
The only way to reverse her insulin resistance is to repeatedly stress her metabolism. How do you do that? That is what she learned in our class.

Stressed metabolism by :

✅ ≤20g carbs/day – no compromises.
✅ Accountability tracking: She reported her morning fasting glucose & ketones to her accountability group every day!
✅ Metabolic stress challenge: A 72-hour sardine fast where she only ate sardines, salt, and water pushed her over the threshold to success.

Why Did This Strategy Work?

These two metabolic stressors—low carbs and sardines—shocked her metabolism back to life.
🔹 Lower insulin → increased fat burning
🔹 Boosted metabolism → broke through the stall

She’s not cured of insulin resistance, but she’s another step closer—feeling amazing and finally losing that stubborn weight!
