Can’t recommend this book enough for anyone wanting to lose weight, improve health, treat inflammation and disease, and read an inspirational story of hope. I’ve been enjoying all the benefits of a ketogenic lifestyle for 14 months (went from 165 lbs. to 125 lbs. effortlessly and within the first several months). I have given this book to friends who have been told they are pre-diabetic, who have COPD, who are seriously overweight, who are depressed, etc. and am helping them communicate with their doctors about the benefits they are looking to achieve through changing their food choices. It is VERY difficult to find a medical professional (at least in upstate New York) that knows much of anything about the ketogenic diet (or even one that doesn’t immediately dismiss it as a crock). This book (along with Ken Berry’s book “Lies My Doctor Told Me”, are excellent reads in that they also give you a personal look at why doctors mostly medicate and operate (because that is what they are mainly taught in medical school) and also why they are too busy to stay up on all the latest research concerning so many different health issues. Keto is not new, but considered a nutritional approach to treatment for a wide range of symptoms and diseases – especially those brought on by inflammation in the body. Most medical doctors have very little training in nutrition so have very little knowledge of the ketogenic diet beyond that fact that it has been used to successfully treat epileptic patients and reduce/eliminate seizures. My advice – ready this book and learn all you can about the health benefits of living a ketogenic lifestyle and then start advocating for yourself – get your doctor on board and challenge them to confirm the findings out there. It’s YOUR body and YOUR health and YOUR quality of life at stake – don’t rely on others to determine your outcome in these areas.
Bought 10 copies and am sharing keto with EVERYONE!
