The butter diet – the ultimate health hack
Eat Butter, Lose Weight.
It’s simple.
There’s this amazing woman in my group – 70-year-old Sherry. She’s been keto for about 18 months now and let me tell you, she’s dedicated. She’s doing her 72-hour fasts every week, and sticking to the plan. Even with all the hard work, she was just NOT seeing the numbers she wanted—her Dr. Boz Ratio wasn’t budging much.
Fasting, eating clean, and yet, those ketones are just kinda flat. Sherry is doing “everything right”
– she’s fasting for three days and her ketones are, like, barely hitting 0.5 or maybe 1.0, and her Dr. Boz Ratio won’t drop below 50. You know that sardine challenge I talk about? She even tried that but bless her heart—she could only get through one can of sardines before she was repulsed and done!
So, frustrated, wondering what she could do differently, she hears this other woman in our group share her story…
This woman had the same problem with sardines- REPULSED BY THEM so she started experimenting with butter.
… from a sardine fast to a butter fast to achieve the same benefits???
She ate a TON of butter and suddenly, her ketones skyrocketed, and better yet- she was sleeping like a baby.
Sherry hears this – “Well, if she can do it, I can do it!” So she gave it a try.
For a few days, Sherry starts eating two sticks of butter every day—yes, two sticks. She’d pair it with some ribeye, avocado, bacon, cabbage cooked in bacon grease—you know, all the good stuff. But the key?
The butter.
Then, she goes into her normal 72-hour water fast. And you guys… it was insane. Her ketones, which usually barely got to 1.0, shot up. By the end of her fast, her ketones hit 4.9! And her Dr. Boz Ratio? It dropped down to 12. TWELVE! Her glucose was sitting at 62. Sherry had never seen numbers like this before.
So, after a week of butter, she finally got through her Metabolic kick!
This is PROOF that sometimes you need to try something a little unconventional to see what works for your body. And for Sherry, butter was her ultimate hack.

Ah, yes—let’s dive into butter and why it’s such a powerful tool, especially in keto.
So you may be thinking, butter? We’ve only been told the misconception that butter and FAT makes you FAT.
.. I am here to debunk that myth.
Butter is essentially a pure source of fat, and what makes it special is that it’s a combination of both long-chain and short-chain fatty acids. When you eat butter, your body quickly starts breaking it down, and fats are converted into ketones for energy.
The key thing with butter, especially when we are talking keto, is that it gives you fat without any interference from carbs or protein. So you’re directly feeding your body the fuel it needs to produce ketones without the complications of other macronutrients.
Eating butter triggers a sensation of satiation, which many people on the ketogenic diet struggle to identify. Butter is a simple, dense fat source, and consuming it can help people feel full more quickly than other foods. Butter’s simplicity makes it an effective tool for those who want to fast without feeling hungry.
Sherry attempted to increase her ketone levels after experiencing lower-than-expected results during her usual 72-hour water fasts. She found that after eating butter for a week, her ketones skyrocketed, peaking at 4.9 mmol/L, which is significantly higher than her previous readings. This increase in ketones suggests that butter effectively pushed her body into a deeper state of ketosis.
Butter OR Sardines?
While Dr. Boz initially promoted sardine fasting (due to its high protein and fat content), she acknowledged that some people, like Sherry, couldn’t handle sardines and instead opted for butter. Both methods can produce similar effects on ketosis, but butter offers a more palatable option for those averse to sardines.
Dr. Boz Ratio?
The Dr. Boz Ratio: ratio of glucose to ketones. This improved dramatically for Sherry after incorporating butter. Her ratio dropped to 12 (from previous numbers like 480 and 290), which indicates a strong state of ketosis and is often associated with optimal fat burning and autophagy (cellular repair).

Butter helps promote better sleep and energy.
Both Sherry and others in her support group who used butter as a fasting tool reported improved sleep and higher energy levels. These effects are attributed to the body’s efficient use of ketones as a clean energy source, particularly after consuming high amounts of fat like butter.

So, to make sure you got all of that- butter as a powerful tool for really getting into ketosis, achieving satiation, and enhancing energy and sleep during fasting. For those of you just can’t choke down a sardine, but really want to get your ketones and Dr. Boz Ratio without feeling deprived or hungry, butter is your answer.
Hope that helps folks, please respond with any topics you wish to hear next week, I am here to help, one ketone at a time!
